We HAVE Dental insurance and the costs are still ridiculous. I'm not looking forward to going next month. I know I have some cavities and I had two fillings fall out, one up front and one back molar. I don't know what I'm going to do if I need crowns/root canal. I'd definitely have the back molar pulled. Ugh... I also still have 1 baby tooth because my left eye tooth never came down... it's still in my head. lol My parents couldn't afford that one when I was a kid and now I can't @ 36.

Cut just a tiny portion of the military spending, and you get free dental care for the whole country, cut half the spending the military, and you got healthcare for everybody.. the US spends 300 billion dollars every year on the military, the 2nd country who spends the most on military is Japan.. and they spend about 40 billion.. there's a 260 billion dollar gap between the two countries who spend the most on their military.. I think one of them spends way too much.

Although the success rate of dental implant is very high, there are about 10% of failure in all dental implantation. The cause is usually related to the bone quality of the implant site. Once the implant failed, it can be easily removed, wait for 6 weeks and re-implant again. It is easier to remove a failed implant than a natural tooth.

I had all my teeth replaced by an unscrupulous dental pratice , my teeth were not that bad, two loose ones. I was told I wouldnt have my teeth much longer and I should have them all taken out. I was scared so I did this I have lost all but two of the implants two left and dentures. I am only 48 I have depression anxiety and I am broke it cost 20,000. Think twice before doing this always only do the bare essetial work. Dont listen to greedy dentists and get a second opinion

@nfan66 I didn't use anything! FYI, I didn't have a bad tooth that needed to be pulled and immediately replaced - I had been missing that tooth for years b/c another dentist pulled the same one on the other side to make room and thought they needed to be symmetrical or something. So I was used to not having anything there. I did have a retainer with a ceramic thing on it to fill when I wore that. You would prob have to spend extra to get a filler during your wait time :(

I just had this done today where I live. A few things were different with my procedure. He did not use that "guiding" thing - he just gauged himself where to start drilling (I only had one missing) and then checked halfway through to see where he was (since my space is so narrow) and then continued to the end. Also, I WAS still told I had to wait 3 months or so before finishing the process. Maybe just being extra-cautious, but the crowns have been placed immediately on all these vids. Weird.

I think that mercury can be considered worst than lead simply because it is a liquid and vaporizes while lead does not. I really don't understand how people can work in mercury and lead refineries.

I realized after the fact that I was thinking about fluoride. Fluoride is more toxic than lead but less toxic than arsenic. I came to your video through a link from a website that had information about both fluoride and mercury. I just got the 2 mixed up. I do think your point about exposure is correct for those with amalgam fillings. (I'm down to 4 amalgam fillings now. Any time that I have a filling that needs to be replaced I request a composite filling.)

Thanks for this. The whole movie is fully referenced and the ref for this is the Agency for Toxic Substances and DIsease Registry. In principle though I do agree with you and would suggest that considering the availability of exposure form amalgam compared to exposure to lead or arsenic it would certainly make mercury the most toxic of the lot.

They are not being truthful. If they come out and tell you that mercury is toxic to your health they can potentially lose their license to practice. Have your mercury amalgam filings removed as soon as possible, it is definitely worth it!!!

A few months after getting amalgams in every molar of my mouth as a 16 yr. old - I came down with rheumatoid arthritis, and had that severe condition for 34 years, until most of the amalgams were removed, and the arthritis vanished, and has not returned for 9 + years! @ArinLudington Assuming you do not overload your bleach tray and a small amount gets out, you should be ok. You may want to wait about 5 min. before laying down to make sure you cleared the excess out. If you are constantly having excess, then you need to cut back on the amount of gel you are putting in. In my office the patient applies the bleach while I watch and guide them, I then refer them to this video as a back-up refresher. If you are worried and don't want to go back to your office to demo in front of them, then I suggest you start with a small amount first. Almost all bleaching systems nowadays are considered safe. Apply just a little and work your way up to applying more. Once you get the hang of it, applying will go fast and easy. Be brave! Take a deep breath and go for it.

The tray you see in the video and overall the best fitting trays should come from your dental office. The doctor, hygienist, or dental assistant (under direct supervision of the dentist) can take an impression that duplicates your teeth and surrounding gum area. The tray can be fabricated from that. The ones you buy in the store and mold yourself may not uniformly fit or be ill-fitting enough to not distribute the bleach properly. You can call various offices to ask a general price.

You may want to ask that exact same question to your dentist. Did you tell her about the irritation? Maybe that is why she wants you to stop. My suggestion would be to stop by her office before your 6 month check up and find out why she wants you to stop. Bring the bleach and the trays with you. Keep me informed.

Thank you for this video, it really helped me getting the bleach into the tray, before it was always touching my gums and causing irritation. I do have a question however, I spoke to my dentist after doing it 3 times and she told me to stop using the bleach until my next 6 month check up even though my teeth haven't whitened properly and the colour is uneven. Is there a medical reason why she would say this or do you think it's safe to do more treatments until I get the desired tooth colour?

Nice to hear from you and good luck with your bleaching effort. It is indeed wise to use the bleach before your bonding. As to whether they will fit, alot depends on the amount of space being filled. If your tray fills the current gaps, then, no, it won't fit once the gaps are filled in with bonding. Be sure to bring your trays to the appointment and ask the dentist to place the trays (BOTH) once the bonding is finished. Let the dentist place them in for you. Good luck!

Update. I'm picking my trays up on Wednesday upper and lower trays. Although I'm not sure what the percentage of the bleach will be he hasn't told me yet. I have a question though. I'm having my teeth whitened first via trays then after that Bonding on the front 4 teeth to close gaps. My question is will i be able to use the upper trays in the future after the bonding has been done. I know it will change the shape of my teeth and i would assume the tray will not fit so accurate anymore? Thanks

Trays are trimmed by the dental staff. They can be trimmed like the one you see here, or closer to the teeth. I prefer this style as it holds to the mouth better and gives more room for the bleaching gel. No matter what way the tray is trimmed, you need to be careful to not put too much bleach in the tray. One of the biggest problems is patients putting too much in....more is NOT better. If you feel the tray is not trimmed right or is hurting....then your dental office can trim it a bit.

I was finally able to get an opposum (frankly I was surprised there was such along waiting list). His name is Zack. Can I use people toothpaste on Zack? I ask because soon after I brought Zack home my wife started developing severe red rashes all over her back and face - and she has trouble breathing. I suspect it is the brand of toothpaste I picked up at the pet store. I think using people toothpaste would solve the problem - but I am afraid it might not be safe for Zack. HELP!!

The teeth is white though. No sign of abcess or anything. Just a little pain of sensitivity when drinking something really cold or even hot. The hole isn't very deep to the pulp. There's no decay either on the teeth, or any grey. Weird. Hope it's not pulpitis, because I don't know the cure for it. When I close up the hole with my finger, It's fine. Even when I brush it, It doesn't hurt.

@DrDickk. Okay. Here's how it goes. I may eat some ice or something, or even put it on the hole and it a little tiny itty bitty pain, than it goes away. When I eat something on it, It doesn't hurt. But at night when I'm sleeping and the small hole is dry, It hurts a bit. I don't know what's up. When I put some temporary filling in there, It hurt a bit. I'm going to go to the dentist sometime next-week so he can do a full mouth x-ray and probably have a filling put there.

that tooth had an endo done on it, the old crown was a post core crown, i guess the reason they replaced it with implant coz the tooth failed.. the new implant is nice but the crown isn't aesthetic as it shouldve been

The tooth that was removed was an old implant. The dentist replace the metal post with a zirconia abutment. I don't understand how he made such a professional procedure and then took an impression with a mouth full of blood. The lab is gonna hate that.

@fernfeyes Good point. Dr.'s from Mexico, USA, etc. don't necessarily wash their hands with hot water to kill off germs. Some germs survive under hot temperatures and the only way to destroy them is with boiling temperatures, which we should doubt that those in the health sector will wash their hands with boiling water. Instead, they use anti-bacterial soaps and gels along with a special method on how to wash without contaminating any further after, as this was taught to us in dentistry school.

@fernfeyes I don't understand your concern of the hot water in dentist's bathrooms. Dentist don't clean their instrumental in bathrooms! They sterilize them in special ovens called autoclave. Either way, if that was your concern then hopefully I helped in a way to clear things up and yes, we do have hot water here in Mexico, its just so damn expensive to have the boilers turned on day and night :(.

i am from mexico and study high school in yuma az. i know alot a doctors from algodones and dr.rubio is the best in algodones. my sister is studying in mexicali to be a dentist too. the education they have in mexico is the same, the reason why there is more is because it is cheaper then the us, and it is 4 years instead of 8-10. i am 16 and im planning on being a dentist too.

@JorgeCortez01 I noticed that too! The Mexican Clinic looks cleaner and better equipted! My husband was just given an estimate of $8000 to have 2 implants and a small bridge to be done here in central Florida. I am definitely looking into one of these clinics.

Just got back from Algadonas and am absolutely ecstatic about how it went. Tooth cleaning, 2 root canals, 5 extractions, 4 fillings, 2 porcelain bridge, 3 porcelain bridge, 1 crown. Took about 20 hrs.total at around 3 hrs. a session and less than 3,000 dollars u.s. The bottom line is I fell asleep during the root canals. Absolutley top notch painless service. Better than any I got back home.

I am of the opinion that the reason dental work is so cheap (and other medical work) is that there is a very low incidence of malpractice suits..What chance would an american citizen have in a mexican court..or a mexican citizen for that matter. The judges down there are paid off by the prevailing party. But on the other hand, our costs in the u.s. include very high liability insurance expense..I don't have the answer..

The real issue is that wages have not kept pace with inflation in the USA for 40 years. My mother as a minimum wage employee fresh out of highschool in 1968 was able to buy CASH brand new,big block,leather interior sedan in 6 months pay.That equivalent car today would cost $35,000 that means that 1968 minimum wage has the purchasing power of a $65-$75K per year job today and only people in that tax bracket can afford to pay $300-$3000 out of pocket for dental procedures,PERIOD. VIVA MEXICO!!

My wife and I live in Los Angeles. We have been using a dentist (and his associates who do oral surgery, etc.) in Tijuana since 2002. The work has been excellent. What would have cost me 12 to 15 thousand for my wife has probably run about 4 thousand. The facilities are top notch. But for the predominance of Latinos working on your teeth, you'd think you're in the U.S. The facilities are just like what you'd find in the States. I pay $40 to get my teeth cleaned ea. time I go.

I agree, you have to be very careful to choose your dentist in Mexico. As a dentist here in Mexico, long time ago I worked in border dental clinic, and guess what, we also saw a lot of cases of malpractice but from US dentists... the most critical area was the root canals, I was impress at the beginning but later it became usual. So be careful, because you can end up with a bad dentist in Mexico as well as in the US.
